United Way, the official philanthropic organization of the Corporate Challenge
Centraide's mission is to support a large network of local community organizations in order to fight poverty, exclusion and social inequality.
Thanks to its understanding of social issues, the organization raises and redistributes funds in a structured way according to the diverse, complex, and growing needs on the ground. Centraide also promotes mutual aid and solidarity and encourages citizen mobilization so that the entire community is better off.
By donating to United Way, you are helping to build more inclusive, poverty-free communities and improve the living conditions of thousands of people.
Why make a donation?
Giving to United Way means supporting a network of numerous community organizations and projects that fight poverty and social exclusion. Because:
- 1 in 8 older people are living in poverty according to the current low-income measure;
- Nearly 1 in 6 households in Quebec lives in unaffordable housing (representing a cost of more than 30% of income);
- In Quebec, more than 2 out of 10 homeless people indicated that eviction from their housing led to their homelessness, making it the main tipping point in 2022;
- In Quebec, 23% of people with disabilities of working age are almost twice as likely to be in poverty as their peers who are not disabled;
- In 2025, 68.7% of Quebec community organizations working in food assistance reported having run out of food;
- 20% of households receiving food assistance have employment as their main source of income in Quebec, and one in three beneficiaries is a child.
Concrete examples of what your donations will accomplish
The funds raised will go to the United Way in your region. Here are some examples of the impact of your donations:
- A donation of $10 allows an organization specializing in domestic violence, and supported by Centraide, to reimburse the travel expenses of a woman coming to meet with a counselor.
- A donation of $20 allows an organization supported by Centraide to offer simplified information, in person or by telephone, to an unemployed person.
- A donation of $50 allows an organization supported by Centraide to provide accelerated access to health insurance cards to five (5) people experiencing homelessness.
- A donation of $100 allows a single mother to receive emergency assistance (food, hygiene, etc.) from an organization supported by Centraide, thus allowing her to breathe a little easier while getting through a difficult period.
- A donation of $260 allows an organization supported by Centraide to help a person keep their home and thus avoid ending up on the street.
- A donation of $500 allows an organization supported by Centraide to renew its educational games and educational activity materials in order to meet the needs of its disabled clientele.
